Rare Disease Day

For Rare Disease Day, I created a series of illustrated graphics designed to raise funds and awareness for charities supporting individuals and families living with rare conditions. The aim wasn’t to explain or define rare disease, but to create something people could connect with emotionally — artwork that felt open, kind, and welcoming.

About the project

The illustrations focus on positivity, togetherness, and shared experience. You’ll find characters from all backgrounds spending time with family, friends holding hands, and small moments of joy woven throughout — even playful details like rainbows on roller skates. These elements were chosen deliberately, to soften a difficult subject and create space for warmth, hope, and conversation.

Rather than leaning into heaviness, the work celebrates kindness and connection. It’s about visibility without overwhelm, awareness without fear, and using illustration as a way to say: you’re not alone. By sharing stories visually and placing joy at the centre, the project aims to support the incredible work these charities do — helping families access care, understanding, and opportunities when they need them most.

The T-shirts became a simple, wearable way for people to show support, start conversations, and be part of something positive. At its heart, the project reflects a belief that art can help hold space for difficult topics — gently, honestly, and with compassion.
