Tales from the crypt.

A series of handmade stop-frame animations inspired by 90’s spooky cult classic “Tales From The Crypt”. A Halloween special with a vintage aesthetic that borrows from the “Funny Bones” books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

About the project

Straight from the off you can see the reference for this style is massively inspired by Janet and Allan Ahlberg’s “Funny Bones”. Whilst the content was driven by the early 90’s madness of Tales From The Crypt, this short series of stop-frame animations aim to capture that warmth and naivety of the original funny bones that we all know and love. Moonlit grounds, creepy graveyard scenes, and magical forests of the undergrowth live a life of their own whilst we are all sleeping. Eerie right? Whilst most of my work focuses on natural subjects it’s essential that fun is also core to my work. A key part of my working process is about making sure we all stay happy, dreaming, exploring, and escaping the mundanity of corporate tat.

The animation uses subtle references to 90’s pop culture and vintage gaming including classic titles like “Zombies Ate My Neighbours”, “ActRaiser” and “Castlevania”.
