Everyday People
Portraits of everyday people served up in an iconic earthboy style.
About the artwork
This is an ever growing study of portraits of everyday people. Quick sketches with pencil, cut paper, and digitised with bold colour, the portraits become characters across the earthboy universe. Keeping a consistent style throughout the portfolio each character is designed with big geometry for easy visual recognition, and unique wonky edges, cut and placed by hand. The overlapped shapes create distinct imperfections that show the joy of play and craft throughout the practice.
Using scissors to cut out shapes allows me to keep some of that handmade aesthetic, and bringing them into a digital space lets me work with color and pattern in a non-destructive way. The key to this style is all about “play.” Having fun is essential to making something joyful.
